PETTY SOUTHERNER CRIMINALS TO LEAVE SUDANESE PRISONS

South Sudanese inmates, male and female, serving small sentences and orphans in the Sudan should be allowed to come home soon.

The head of South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission announced that the Sudanese authorities agreed to release South Sudanese detainees serving short sentences to complete their prison terms in South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.

Peter Lam Both added that the two Governments have to agree on the exchange of prisoners serving heavy sentences.

Mr Lam explained that the Sudanese ministry of Gender and Social welfare agreed to release children and women in Sudanese jails after some compensation.

He added that Khartoum agreed to escort Sudanese returnees in Kosti to Renk after some agreement.

There are still more than 3,000 Southerners in Kosti waiting transport to South Sudan.
