A number of foreign nationals living in South Sudan have joined the celebration of International Peace Day with messages of friendship and goodwill.
The Peace Commission organized an event in Juba in partnership with IGAD, AU, UN and NGOs attended by citizens from South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, DR Congo, Somalia and Rwanda.The head of Kenyans in South Sudan Gideon Mungai told Bakhita Radio that the Association was happy to celebrate peace day with the people of South Sudan after years of civil unrest.
He said random killings reduced in South Sudan.
Gazara Justine from Rwandan said his community hopes South Sudanese will maintain peace in the country.
He added he was happy to make and meet South Sudanese friends in peace day.
Somali national Mahdi Mohammed Ado said he was happy because there was peace in Somalia and South Sudan.
The occasion was graced with speeches from Government officials, NGOs, and community leaders.
This year’s International Day of Peace was celebrated under the theme “Sustainable Peace for Sustainable Future.”
