The new municipality of Wau covers 154 square kilometres and it is divided in three areas: Wau North, Wau South and East Bank.

The final mapping of the town was presented on Monday to the Western Bahr El Ghazal council of Ministers, Voice of Hope reported.

The demarcation Committee was formed earlier this month to run the process of mapping the municipal area.

Wau Municipal Demarcation Committee secretary Gesindo Matias Mborro presented the new municipality to the press.

He said Wau municipality will consist of five blocks with eight quarters covering a seven-kilometre radius from the central police station.

The proposal of making Wau municipality was rejected by local residents in March.

However, Headquarter Caretaker Commissioner Maradouma James Benjamin clarified that the authorities were able to resolve the refusal and that the majority of the local residents were supporting the municipality.

He added that the creation of municipalities is a national plan that already includes Juba, Malakal, Aweil and Rumbek.

Mr Maradouma said the creation of Wau Municipality was formally approved by the national government.
