Lakes State Government has condemned the recent physical attack on a Catholic priest who directs the diocesan radio station in Rumbek.
On Tuesday night last week, two unidentified persons physically assaulted Don Bosco Ochieng, inflicting serious injuries on his body as he was driving home one of his staff.Lakes State’s Acting Director General for the Ministry of Social Development, Bol Majok Dong, told Good News Radio on Monday that the act was regrettable and unacceptable.
Mr Dong pointed out that it was wrong for anyone to attack people who have sacrificed their time to offer the much needed support in the new country.
He said such acts should be condemned at national and state levels, because the Government has a responsibility of maintaining law and order and taking care of the security of development partners from other countries.
Fr Ochieng is a Kenyan national and a member of Rumbek diocese clergy.
Mr Dong said those who attacked Fr Ochieng should be arrested to face the full force of the law.
He urged the people of Lakes State to appreciate those who are responding to the call for support instead of attacking them.
Fr Ochieng went to Kenya for checkups after the mugging that injured him in the head, face and elbows.
Incidents of insecurity are reportedly rising in the past weeks in Rumbek especially during night hours.
