A court has adjourned the hearing of a case filed by the designer of the national coat of arms against the Government to October.

Juba County Court Judge James Paulino Wani on Friday postponed the hearing to October a after the legal advisors from the Ministry of Justice asked for more time to prepare their submission.

Before adjournment, the chief registrar in the Ministry of Justice, Hakeem David, informed the court that the State does not have a law on intellectual property, making it difficult to handle such cases.

Chol Anei Ayii, the designer of the coat of arms, sued the Government for failing to pay him prize money of five thousand US dollars, which he claims he won for designing the national emblem.

The then Minister of Culture, Gabriel Changson Chang, promised a prize to the contestants who won the best design for the Republic’s coat of arms and the national anthem.
