About 40 representatives from the ten states have gathered in Juba for a three-day conference that concludes today with the formation of South Sudan National Land Alliance.

The body will act as national advocacy umbrella, which will unite the efforts of all the ten State Land Alliances and other actors, into one National Land Alliance for the advancement of land rights in South Sudan.

Land and Resource Rights Adviser for, Norwegian People’s Aid, Jamus Joseph said land is by far the most important resource for survival that the people of South Sudan have at their disposal.

He added that proper use of the land taking into consideration the people’s aspirations and ownership rights is vital for the stability and development of the young nation.

Mr Joseph said Norwegian People’s Aid and the land alliances are determined to continue working in partnership with the Government of South Sudan and other partners to ensure a fair land regime in South Sudan.

State Land Alliances were established in 2011, and have so far played a key role sensitizing citizens about the South Sudan Land Act (2009).
