Food insecurity still remains a major concern for residents in Greater Equatoria.

This is the main result of a survey on public opinion conducted by IRI, the International Republican Institute, in the States of Eastern Equatoria, Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria, Bakhita Radio reported.

The survey was conducted between May 21 to June 15, 2012.

IRI resident program officer James Turitto presented the results of the opinion poll to journalists this morning in Juba.

He said the survey aimed at findind what citizens living in Greater Equatorial think of what is happening in their state and the country.

He added that the results of the survey will be useful to government officials and policy makers to prepare new policies that reflect the needs of citizens.

Mr Turitto said IRI will be conducting two public opinion polls every year in the next three years.

He explained that at the end of the year IRI plans to conduct a national public opinion poll covering the whole country.

He added that IRI is going to conduct polls in Upper Nile and Bahr El Ghazal regions and conclude its work with another national poll.

Mr Turitto said poll reports are very important indicators because they allow the national and state governments to understand the concerns of citizens and plan accordingly.
