RIGHTS COMMISSION LAUNCHES FORUM

South Sudan Human Rights Commission today launched a new initiative to strengthen itself and government institutions on rights issues.

Chairperson Lawrence Korbandy said the forum that started today is meant to be a space to share experiences, information and influence on issues of human rights.

He called for reforms in government institutions to promote efficiency.

Vice President Riek Machar Teny said the forum should work together with other institutions to promote human rights and single out violations through memoranda of understanding.

He added that human rights violations can be eradicated if all institutions work together closely.

Dr Machar said good governance is receiving increased attention in the international scene among governments and institutions.

The launch of the Human Rights Forum brought together various partners from UNMISS, the UN Mission in South Sudan, civil society organization and members from national and international organization.
