Youth from all over the ten states of South Sudan attending a conference in Juba expressed hope that their interaction represents a step towards building the new nation.
CRN interviewed two young people from Eastern Equatoria and Jonglei state and asked their impressions about the conference.Wani Franco Materno, member of Community Initiative for Rural Development in Eastern Equatoria, said the conference is a way forward towards the involvement of youths in politics.
He explained that the participants have gained new understanding by exchanging ideas on how to build the new nation.
Mr Franco added that the state government involves youths in rallies but not in decision making processes.
Atong Majok Kur, member of National Youth Union from Jonglei, said the interesting thing about the conference was meeting peers from other states to interact and share ideas.
She added that youth in Jonglei state are well organized and they can do greater things if they are given chance.
Ms Majok said there are two youth organizations working ensure peace in the state.
She added that Jonglei state is known worldwide for its inter-tribal conflicts and the Jonglei Youth Union and Civil Society are working for peace to prevail.
The two-day conference “Building a better South Sudan” is part of the International Youth Day activities organized by the national Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and support by UN Population Agency.
