EASTERN EQUATORIA GOVERNMENT ASSURES FOREIGNERS OF SAFETY

The Government of Eastern Equatoria has assured foreigners residing in the state that they are safe following the death of Kenyan medical doctor in Torit under unclear situations while in police custody.

Deputy Governor Jerome Surur Gama met the foreign community on Friday in Torit.

He told foreigners to remain be calm as the death of the doctor was an isolated case that the government has taken to investigate.

Mr Surur said state government has the capacity to contain issues of security threats on the people and the petty criminal cases occur also in the neighbouring countries.

The deputy governor emphasised that the government is concerned with the security of everyone in the state and foreigners can approach the state leadership on issues of security and safety.

He conveyed the apology of the state government on the mysterious death of Dr. Joseph Matu.

Mr Surur said Dr Matu’s death was a shock to not only the expat community but also the government and citizens of eastern Equatoria state.

He added that the High Investigation Committee set to find facts on the death of the Kenyan Doctor will publish its report.

Eastern Equatoria state Assembly on Wednesday tasked the minister of Public Administration, Suleiman Liling, and the Acting state Police Commissioner to explain the Kenyan doctor’s mysterious death.
