The national Minister for Agriculture and Forestry urged farmers to buy tractors through the Agricultural Bank of South Sudan after contractors delivered the vehicles to the Ministry.

Betty Achan Ogwaro today visited the Kapuri Agricultural Mechanized Centre to inspect the 108 tractors supplied by C-Tech and Global Link.

She explained that farmers could apply to buy a tractor and a board will look through the applications to sell the vehicles.

Ms Achan said applying farmers have to show their financial capabilities and the land they want to cultivate for the board to approve their request.

She added that after the requests are approved, the farmers pay the tractors in instalments with cash or cheque every year for three or four years.

Ms Achan advised people who have no land ready for cultivation not to buy tractors now, but wait until their lands are ready because the tractors are few.

She said every year the Ministry will recycle the money made with the sale of tractors to bring more vehicles into the country.

Ms Achan revealed that the Ministry is working a solution to clear forests in the green belt of Equatoria and Renk.

C-Tech and Global Link were contracted by the Ministry of Agriculture to supply tractors and tools in 2007, but the delivery was completed last week.
