Citizens on queues for verification, photo taking and reception of nationality cards and passports lamented rampant malpractices by officials at the Immigration offices.
Bakhita Radio talked to James Diing who was on queue to process a nationality card. He said officials at most Immigration offices facilitate documents for their relatives, friends and colleagues instead of attending all people equally. He added that special doors were opened to facilitate documents for relatives, friends and colleagues of Immigration officials who do not wanted to stand on line.
A woman who asked to keep her name private said even boda-boda riders, tea makers and ordinary people who have relatives at the Immigration would receive their documents faster than a minister.
She added that these are serious forms of corruption that most officials in South Sudan ignore.
Awat Kimbu said the Government should decentralize Immigration offices to all states in order to simplify the process.
He said the process to receive nationality or passport documents can take four to five days to complete.
