South Sudan made a strong case to the international norms that promote peace and stability to pave the way for the referendum of the Ngok-Dinka community in Abyei.
Luka Biong made this point on Bakhita Radio’s Wake up Juba morning show.He said the oil deal reached by South Sudan’s negotiators in Ethiopia includes all the pending issues that were in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, including the Abyei referendum.
Dr Biong commented that the Government of South Sudan accepted the roadmap drawn by the African Union for the demilitarization of the border.
He added that the Sudan and the international community had to come together to determine the fate of the people of Abyei.
Dr Biong said if the government of Sudan continues to delay a solution for Abyei, the people of South Sudan should decide whether to negotiate or go for the referendum unilaterally.
He added that the oil deal is not a concluded agreement but a position that was agreed upon by the two parties and the agreement will come after ironing out the pending issues, including security.
Dr Biong said South Sudan should retain a strong position in case Khartoum turns the deal down.
