The head of the Episcopal Church of Sudan has urged citizens to fight hunger through cultivation.
Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul told CRN that people should be very serious about farming because God has blessed South Sudan with enough rain.He urged people to cultivate in order to produce enough food for next year.
The Anglican leader – who went to Renk to cultivate his fields – believes that God will bless the soil and its people.
He said cultivation is the weapon against hunger and top government officials and church leaders took the lead.
Archbishop Deng said people have to produce their own food instead of importing it from neighbouring countries.
He challenged people to cultivate small crops like okra and tomatoes even in the backyard of their homes.
Archbishop Deng encourage South Sudanese not be lazy but work to produce their own food in order to be blessed by God.
Most food the nation consumes is imported from neighbouring countries despite very fertile land and plenty of water in South Sudan.
