The Chairperson of South Sudan Civil Society Alliance said signing citizenship agreements with the Khartoum government should not be a priority to the people of South Sudan.
Deng Athuai told Bakhita Radio that agreements on freedom of movement for citizens of both Sudans was not important because South Sudanese are not going to the Sudan to seek employment or conduct businesses.Mr Athuai added that the Arabs came to the Sudan as businessmen and thereafter claimed the ownership of the land.
He said it should not happen again.
Mr Athuai said the negotiations should tackle priority issues including borders, Abyei, and oil.
Mr Athuai said the governments in Juba and Khartoum have to settle the border demarcation and finalize the question of Abyei before talking about citizenship.
