The capital of South Darfur in the Sudan is recovering from two days of violent protests that left a number of people dead.
A resident told CRN over the phone that the riots started on Monday when students led thousands into the streets of Nyala protesting against a hike on transport fares.He added that Tuesday was the most violent day.
The authorities said six people were killed in the riots.
Our source said the number of the dead should be closer to 16.
The resident added that today the authorities closed primary and secondary schools and the university and calm returned to Nyala’s streets.
He said the shops were opening slowly.
The prices of transport did not change after the riots.
