The President of the Republic is scheduled to travel today to the Ethiopian capital to present South Sudan’s final offer to the Sudan in the ongoing negotiations on outstanding post independence issues.

A SPLM source who does not want to be named told CRN that President Salva Kiir Mayardit will explain South Sudan’s position to the AU mediators to resolve the hot issues of oil, border, security and citizenship.

In May 2, the UN Security Council gave South Sudan and Sudan three months to solve their differences and mandated the African Union Panel to impose solutions in case negotiations fail.

Last week, the Government of South Sudan presented an “Agreement on Friendly Relations and Cooperation” between South Sudan and Sudan, offering a very generous phased aid package of almost 8.3 billion US Dollars to the Government fo Khartoum in exchange for a speedy conclusion of the negotiations.

The document proposes the resumption of oil production and the reopening of borders to free circulation of people and goods between South Sudan and Sudan.
