Donors from the Italian association of “Sorriso per IL Sudan” visited Mupoi Parish in Tombura-Yambio Diocese to assess some development projects.

The President of the Association Mr. Luigi Gornati saidÊ the association that was founded in 1999 started working in Nuba Mountains by developing hospitals, primary and secondary schools, Anisa Radio reported.

He said that with lots of experiences from Nuba Mountains, they moved after the Independence of South Sudan to Western Equatoria State

He added that last year they visited the Comboni sisters who are supporting HIV/AIDS and Tuberculoses patients in Nzara Hospital and erected a nursery in the hospital.

Mr. Gornati said they went to Nzara to see the new building, and then proceeded to Mupoi, where the Comboni Missionaries first lived and invested over hundred years ago.

He said that they went together with the Catholic bishop of Tombura Yambio to define some projects for Mupoi Parish.

He said they agreed to open a vocational Training Centre, and help the Comboni sisters to build a new convent and open a boarding secondary school in the area.

The donors promised to come back in October, with engineers and some volunteers of the association, to start construction and renovation of the buildings in Mupoi.

Mupoi is the centre for the centenary celebration due to take place in December 12, and will be declared the pilgrimage centre in Tombura Yambio Diocese.
