The oil producing company PETRONAS had offered 120 scholarships as a training opportunity to South Sudanese in Malaysia.
Undersecretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining Machar Aciek Ader said the two years training is to boost petroleum industry in South Sudan, Radio Bakhita reported.He said the training will deal on different part of operations including electrical, mechanical and plumbing.
Mr Aciek added that the purpose of the training is to qualify and empower the young South Sudanese to be ready to work in the oil industry in the country.
He said President Kiir has now signed the petroleum bill into lawÊ and that many companies will be attracted into the country and will need more skilled personnel.
Director-General of Petroleum in South Sudan Mohammed Lino Benjamin said the oil industry had been lacking experienced personnel since last year.
He thanked PETRONAS Company for offering scholarships to 120 South Sudanese.
Mr Lino described the offer as a great chance to the ministry and that it will prepare oil field operators and technicians ready for operation.
He said the ministry hopes to get a similar number or more of personnel trained either through PETRONAS or any other oil producing company next year.
Mr Lino said the oil industry in South Sudan is still new and that it requires the ministry to put a lot of efforts for its smooth running.
