A priest in the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek has challenged young people in South Sudan to join the fight against illiteracy and ignorance by enrolling for studies in the available educational facilities in the Country.
The Parish Priest of the Holy Family in Rumbek, Fr. Andrea Osman Okello was talking during the blessing of Primary School dedicated to the Late Bishop Caesar Mazzolari on Saturday in Mayan Atol.Fr. Osman Okello urged parents and youth to address illiteracy and ignorance by after the 21 years war that led to independence last year
He advised children to benefit from the school, put their hearts in education; and respect their teachers and parents.
Sr. Maria Goretti said the blessing of the school is a good beginning.
She thanked members of community in Mayen Atol for providing a piece of land for constructing the school facility.
Sr. Goretti acknowledged Fr. John Mathiang’s contribution towards the construction of the school and that the facility will improve access to education in Mayen Atol.
Lakes State Director-General in the Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Human Resource Development, Abraham Makur Mangok said that the school is the product of the seed planted by the Late Bishop Mazzolari.
He said the late Bishop was a man of vision and that he was one of the beneficiaries of Bishop Mazzolari’s commitment to the empowerment of South Sudanese.
He expressed optimism that the School will produce great personalities in the future.
The Primary School was founded by Fr. John Mathiang of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek, with the support of Mayen Atol community members and other well wishers.
