POLICE BLAME ILLEGAL ARMS FOR INSECURITY IN LAKES STATE

Lakes State Deputy Police Commissioner has blamed increase of illegal firearms for the recent rise of insecurity in Lakes State.

David Dut Marial said on Monday morning that it has been established that some illegal arms have been entering Lakes State from Unity State through Maper area in Rumbek North County, Radio Good News reported.

Brig. Marial confirmed that some suspects have already been apprehended for possessing illegal arms.

He expressed concern that some people are still using illicit guns to destabilize peace and tranquillity in Rumbek Town.

Marial revealed that the police force is working closely with other security organs to deal with the challenge of illegal arms in the State.

He warned that killing is a capital offense and that stringent action will be taken against those who will be arrested for committing such crimes.

Brig. Dut Marial disclosed that Cueibet, Yirol East, Rumbek East and Rumbek North counties are among the most hit by the recent incidents of insecurity and that situation has also been aggravated by cattle rustling.

The Cueibet clashes, which lasted for nearly one month, is said to have left about 10 people dead and many injured.
