A health official in Yei Civil Hospital said the number of people contracting the HIV virus is increasing in Yei River County.
Yei County AIDS Commission Coordinator, Chris Isa said that they have registered an increase in the number of clients enrolling for antiretroviral treatment at the center in Yei Civil Hospital, Radio Easter reported.He explained that in June this year 2,027 clients were registered taking treatment.
Mr Isa added 624 have access to antiretroviral medicine but the rest have not.
He said that 64 percent of the patiets on antiretroviral drugs are women but that does not mean that women are the most affect by the virus.
Mr Isa added that it simply indicates that women general have access to health services than men.
The Coordinator appealed to the state higher authorities at levels to address the challenges facing the county in fight the disease.
Mr Isa advised the community to go for voluntary counseling nad testing.
