A telecommunication operator has awarded the best three winners of the Independence Marathon held today at Juba Football Stadium.
Director General of culture youths and sport, Edward Settimo said the best winners of 21 kilometres will get 4,500, the second will get 2,000 each and the third will get 1,500 Pounds.He added that those who compete for 10 kilometre the first winners will get 1,500 the second winners each will get 750 Pounds.
Mr Settimo said for those who compete for 5 kilometre, the first winners will get 500 each, second winners will get 250 and the third will get 150 Pound.
All the winners will get free telephone from MTN.
MTN Chief Commercial Officer, Fred Mokoena said his company is not going to forget this kind of event but it will continue sponsoring more activities.
Mr Mokoena added that sports normally bring different people together as witnessed in today’s events.
National minister for Culture Youth and Sports Sirino Hiteng Ofuho congratulated MTN for awarding the best three winners of the Independence Marathon.
He called on others investors to do the same for the second anniversary of the independence.
Dr Hiteng added that the ministry is going to make independence marathon an annual event in the nation.
He said the ministry is also planning for inter states marathon competition so that the ministry get the best runners that can challenge Ethiopia and Kenya.
The independence marathon saw participation of many athletes from different states of South Sudan including expatriates from Ethiopia, Kenya and USA.
