The Government of South Sudan has today reiterated its call for the full withdrawal of Sudan Armed Forces from Abyei according to the UN Security Council resolution 2046.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin said Sudan must withdraw its forces from Abyei.

He said South Sudan demand the UN Security Council and African Union to ask Sudan to withdraw its military forces from Abyei just as South Sudan has withdrawn its forces according to the UN resolution.

Dr Marial said that the forces in Abyei are not police but Sudan Armed Forces disguised as police.

He added that when Sudanese forces occupied Abyei in May last year, police did not enter into the area.

Dr Marial said there is no truth in the statement of the Sudanese Army spokesperson that Sudan has withdrawn its forces from Abyei.

He added that Abyei should be left in under control of the United Nations Interim Force for Abyei alone.
