The national minister for Culture, Youth and Sport has lamented poor sporting facilities in the country but promised hard work to improve them.

South Sudan joined FIFA, the world football governing body, this week with the aim of boosting the sports activities in the country.

Minister Cirino Hiteng Ofuho said over Bakhita’s Wake up Juba morning show that a lot had been done in the field of sports but more is still needed to improve sport activities in the new nation.

He said there is need to build more facilities that would enhance football in the country.

Dr Hiteng added that his ministry is looking forward to build more facilities in the ten States and improve the existing ones.

He said South Sudan has huge talents in the field of football and that is witnessed by a lot of interested young men and women on the streets kicking paper bags and stockings filled with papers instead of balls.

Dr Hiteng added that there is need to provide footballs and play grounds to the youth in order to meet high need of sporting activities in the country.

He said opening a football academic in South Sudan would generate good sporting young men and women, adding that sport is also source of income generation.

After South Sudan’s independence the country has been trying hard to get involved into the World Football Associations.

FIFA is the latest organizations that accepted the membership of South Sudan.
