COUNCIL OF EDUCATION ENDORSES DECISION TO CLOSE PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES

The National Council of Higher Education has resolved to endorse the decision of the minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology to close down 22 private higher learning institutions.

The closed universities include Supiri Institute of Management, Cambridge International College, The Bridge University, Nile Institute of Technology and Southern Sudan Christian University.

The ministry of Higher Education also called on the ministry of Justice to institute legal measures against 19 institutions for cheating of the citizens of South Sudan.

The order however requires formalization and regularization of some institutions to follow the academic criteria for South Sudan.

The ministry called on Canon Benaiah Pogo College, South Sudan management institute, St. Mary University and Mikese University to meet the demands for evaluation and approval of their academic programme.

Other universities have been asked to regularize their status with the ministries of Higher Education and Justice and Investment commission of South Sudan.

The Ministry also asked Saint Pauls Major Seminary, El Shaddai College of Health Sciences and Research Centre to formalize their status as institutions under the ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology.
