The commissioner for Yei River County has warned chiefs or landlords about timber exploitation in the county.

David Juma Augustine told the crowd that gathered at Pakula Boma that during his visits to all the payams he found that most of the timber exploitation is being encouraged by landlords, Radio Easter reported.

He said landlords sell a whole tree that has grown for many years for only 35 pounds.

Mr Juma said a forest reserve for teaks like Kajiko could have generated revenue for the development of the county adding that it has being exploited and traders are the only ones who have benefited.

He called the residents of Pakula boma to protect their teak forest so that they can sell at a reasonable price which can benefit them.
