WESTERN BAHR EL CHAZAL MARKS UN PEACEKEEPERS DAY

Western Bahr El Ghazal celebrated the United Nations Peacekeepers Day on Tuesday in Wau.

The UNMISS in Western Bahr el Ghazal State celebrated the day by exhibiting photographs that tell the role peacekeepers are playing in various counties.

UNMISS State Coordinator Ibrahim Ndiaye said on this particular date they recall all those who have given their lives in the service of the nations.

He added that many men and women have died devoting their lives to peace attempting to bring stability in various countries.

Mr Ndiaye added that from 2011 to the present day 139 keepers were killed during peacekeeping mission and the UN mourns their death and recognizes the great sacrifice they made for the good of humanity.

He thanked the police and all other organizations for their contribution towards maintaining peace and security.

Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan thanked the UN personnel for not only helping in peacekeeping but also in capacity building.

He added that it was a pleasure to attend the peacekeeper’s day and commemorate together the role played by the UN in South Sudan.

The UN is mandated to promote peace and security in every country where it has a mission.
