Education is the only way through which the people of South Sudan can advance.

This is the view of Augustine Nicoletti, an American La Sale Brother who is in South Sudan training teachers in a program run by Solidarity with South Sudan.

Br. Nicoletti was for two weeks training teachers in Mapuordit, West Yirol County, together with Sr Sandra Amado and both shared their views with Good News Radio.

Br Nicolleti said the United States of America became successful after independence because people embraced education.

He explained that most Americans have advanced economically and socially, because they benefited from the country’s education system which also includes private entities such as the Catholic Church.

Br Nicolleti called on the people of South Sudan to send their children to school to learn English and at the same time ensure that their cultural heritage and language are preserved.

Sr Sandra, a Comboni Sister from Brazil, said South Sudan will prosper if citizens receive quality education.

She advised the people of South Sudan against giving up on the search for education.

She said Solidarity with South Sudan, a consortium of more that 200 religious congregations, is happy to be involved in building the capacity of teachers, who play a key role in the education of children and youth.

Sr Sandra explained that Mapuordit secondary school teachers were taken through a course in English, Mathematics, Computer Skills and Professional Studies.

Eleven of the 12 Secondary School Teachers of Mapuordit Comboni School turned up for the training.
