Wau County authorities are preparing to get rid of stray dogs in collaboration with the state ministry of animal resources and veterinary service as dog bites increased in Western Bahr El Ghazal capital.

The decision came after two UNIMISS staff were reportedly bitten by stray dogs, Voice of Hope reported.

The county authorities circulated a message calling on all dog owners to keep their pets indoors to allow the police to kill the stray variety.

Abdelrahim Mohammed Eldoma, Director of Veterinary Service, said so far there were no rabies cases from dog’s bites.

He explained that the authorities decided to to shoot stay dogs because two or three dog bites are reported daily in Wau.

Dr Mohammed said the veterinary office does not have vaccinations for dogs but they were already ordered from Juba.

He asked owners to keep their dogs tied in indoors.

The Veterinary Service chief said any dog found wondering about in town will be killed.

Dr Mohammed explained that the operation will be done in coordination with the security personnel and people should not get scared when the operation started.
