The Catholic parish of Tonj, diocese of Rumbek, celebrated on Thursday the feast of Mary Help of Christians with great joy.
The feast of Mary Help of Christians is very a very important celebration for Tonj residents, because on May 24, 2001 an Antonov bombed the area during the celebration and nobody was killed, Don Bosco FM reported.The feast is also important for Sisters of Mary Help of Christians Ð also known as Salesian Sisters Ð who opened a community in Tonj this year.
Mary Shanty Anthony, the superior of Salesian Sisters in Tonj, said the community was happy and grateful to Mother Mary for the graces and blessings she is showering upon everyone to carry out their missionary activities.
She urged the Christian community to place all their trust in Mary and she will support them in all the difficulties that they may face in daily life.
Fr James Pulikal, parish priest of Sacred Heart Parish-Tonj, urged the congregation to devote their county, country and state and their whole life to Mary and she will intercede for all.
The feast was marked with Marian Quiz which was conducted at Don Bosco Secondary campus.
The celebration was concluded with procession from Don Bosco Secondary School to Old Mission.
