The Government of South Sudan has strongly condemned the aerial bombardment and ground attacks launched by Sudan Armed Forces in Waraget area of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on May 21 and 22.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press on Tuesday that Sudan’s acts of aggression against South Sudan have continued despite the UN Security Council Resolution 2046 demanding a halt in border attacks between the two countries.

Dr Marial said the air attacks pose a serious threat to both regional and international peace and security.

He added that South Sudan is committed to the continuing efforts by the African Union Panel to assist both Sudans to reach agreement on outstanding post-independent issues.

Dr Marial said South Sudan will be forced to retaliate if Sudan’s aggressions don’t stop.

He urged the UN Security Council and AU Security and Peace Council to order Sudan to stop the wanton attacks on South Sudan.
