Central Equatoria State Legislative Assembly this morning discussed the alleged mistreatment of citizens from borders areas over nationality issues by Migration officials.

MP Dabe Francis Elisama from Kajo Keji North Constituency revealed that citizens of Central Equatoria who belong to Kuku from Kajo Keji County, Lugbara and Kakwa from Morobo and Yei Counties were refused nationality and other nation documents because they were considered foreigners by Immigration officials.

He gave a testimony of Moro Samson Kwaje from Lire Payam who after acquiring his nationality was arrested and detained for three days by the CID accused of not being a South Sudanese.

He added that Samuel Amule and his sister Ayite Muna from Kindi Boma were arrested and detained in February for seven days at Northern Police station under the same charge.

The Assembly was discussing ways to ensure the right to equality of citizenship and nationality enshrined in the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan and of Central Equatoria State.

The Assembly decided to form a committee to investigate the issue led by Modi Lomindi.
