International Nongovernmental organizations operating around Agok, in Abyei area, are fearing an outbreak of insecurity after the South Sudan Police Service pulled put from the disputed area.
International NGOs asked the Agok authorities and UN peacekeepers to provide a mechanism to ensure continued free and safe movement of humanitarian workers and clear communications to ensure a rapid security response. The police contingent withdrew from the Abyei area on May 10 to respect the peace plan set out by the UN Security Council and the African Union to stop hostilities between South Sudan and Sudan.
UN and AU told South Sudan and Sudan to withdraw all unauthorized forces from the Abyei area, but Sudan’s forces still remain in Abyei town.
