The Catholic Diocese of Yei is starting today a three-day symposium to reflect on its history and the role of laity, particularly women and youths, in the Church.
Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe of Yei, who chaired last October’s Symposium Taskforce, wrote to all bishops in both Sudans urging them to follow-up the national convention with diocesan programmes targeting youth, women and Justice and Peace Commissions.Yei’s Symposim aims at deepening the knowledge of the faithful about the history of the Church and diocese and highlighting the role of the laity, particularly the role of women and youth, in the Church.
It includes the history of the Episcopal Church in Yei, ecumenical collaboration in Greater Yei and the Pope’s document Africa’s Commitment.
The Symposium should map the way forward to the Catholic Church of Yei.
It concludes on Sunday with a thanksgiving mass followed by a handcrafts exhibition and the screening of a film about Yei’s celebrations of South Sudan independence.
The Symposium takes place at St Joseph’s Secondary School.
About 70 people are expected to attend: nine delegates from each of the seven parishes plus office holders and some guests.
