Lakes State Governor Wednesday carried out the first efficiency test of the long awaited Rumbek Electric Power Station ahead of the official launching.
Chol Tong Mayay switched on the three-megawatt power plant amidst cheers from the jubilant Rumbek residents.Addressing a crowd, Eng Tong said that the project was long overdue but he thanked the Egyptian government and EPS Company for their support.
He added that when the station becomes fully operational it will create more jobs for the youth, generating additional revenue for the Rumbek Town Council and attract more investors.
Eng Tong explained that the cost of running the power plant will likely go high due to fuel prices.
He said the project will sustain itself because there is a high demand for electricity in Rumbek .
The Governor added that this new development is a blessing to the state.
He promised that the capacity of the Rumbek power station will be expanded to ten megawatts.
