SOUTH SUDAN RED CROSS CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY IN YAMBIO

South Sudan Red Cross Society Tuesday celebrated its international day under the theme “Youth on the Move” after nine months of its existence.

The theme highlighted the important roles played by young in alleviating human sufferings, protection of life, respect of human dignity, the improvement of mature understanding and friendship between the nations, Anisa FM reported.

A group of volunteers and Red Cross members started the day with a general cleaning in the compound of Yambio Civil Hospital to preserve good sanitation.

In the second session of the celebration, the South Sudan Red Cross Society -Yambio branch Director, Victor Kumbo Baruguzo, explained the origin of Red Cross to the local communities and their achievements in the state.

He said their main roles and activities are: health, food security, water and sanitation.

He added that so far the Red Cross constructed 17 Primary Health Care Units in Yambio and Nzara Counties in addition to 22 water points: 13 traditionally dug and nine drilled by machines.

In his message, Mr Kumbo emphasized on the theme “Youth on the Move” to encourage the young people of both sexes to join and register with the Red Cross Movement as members or volunteers.
