The Ministry of Health in Western Bahr El Ghazal State Friday commemorated belatedly World Malaria Day.
About 40 percent of children under five years of age have died from Malaria since the year began.State health minister Isaac Cleto told the crowd at Wau Stadium that malaria affects especially children under five years and pregnant mothers, Voice of Hope reported .
He said in order to minimize this killer disease the state ministry will strengthen prevention.
He asked every family to clean its compound and cut grass two meters around it, fill pools of water with soil and sleep under mosquito nets every night.
Mr Cleto said the malaria parasite is becoming resistant to treatment because patients do not take all the tablets or take them when they do not have malaria.
Abdelgadir Mudwak Acuil, the state malaria control coordinator, said his organism distributed about 300,000 mosquito nets to prevent mosquito bites since January.
The World Malaria Day is celebrated on April 25 but Western Bahr El Ghazal State pushed it to May 4.
