The border conflict is not enough to stop trade in Northern Bahr el Gazal.

Local business is up and running at Jaac village between the local community and some Rezigat traders from Sudan.

Rezigat businessman Bashar Ahmed Ibrahim told Nhomlaau FM they are exchanging goods such as sorghum, sugar, goats and sheep.

He said the barter trade system is good for both communities.

Mr Ahmed explained that residents are asked to pay three to four goats or sheep in exchange for a 100 Kilogram sack of sorghum.

Residents at Jaac say they the barter trade system is an improvement from what was in place before.

Community member Garang Lual Garang explained that they appreciate the new partnership with Rezigat traders.

He said the Aweil North county commissioner Kuol Hal Athuai is aware of the foreign traders’ presence in the area.

Mr Lual added that it does not matter whether lots of goats will be traded to the Rezigat because hunger is the immediate concern to the local population.
