Sudan’s foreign affairs minister wrote to the African Union saying his government has accepted in principle the AU Peace and Security Council Roadmap.
Ali Ahmed Karti said Sudan is ready to continue to cooperate with the AU, through the High?Level Implementation Panel, to reach solutions on all pending issues in the post?secession relations with South Sudan.AU Chairman Jean Ping said Sudan’s communication is a positive step in the right direction.
Mr Ping underlined the AU’s determination to ensure the full implementation of all aspects of the Roadmap, which – he said – represents the collective and considered view of Africa on the issues at hand.
He stressed the need for South Sudan and Sudan to extend full and unreserved cooperation towards the implementation of the Roadmap.
Mr Ping asked both governments to refrain from any military action and support to armed movements operating against the other state.
