The delegation representing Khartoum at the post-independent negotiations in the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa is not yet interested in a peace deal with Juba.
South Sudan chief negotiator Pagan Amum Akech told journalists yesterday in Juba that his delegation was ready to sign the proposed agreement to reduce tension between the two countries and settle disputes peacefully, Bakhita Radio reported.He said the Sudanese delegation left the negotiations table with the pretext that they needed to consult with the government in Khartoum because they are not readyfor peace.
Mr. Amum said Sudan wanted to drive South Sudan back into war.
He called on the government of Khartoum to stop bombing South Sudan areas.
Mr Amum added the people of both countries deserve to live in peace after a long war.
He added that South Sudan wants peace to develop the new country.
The chief negotiator said President Salva Kiir Mayardit still wants to hold a summit with President Omar Al Bashir in Juba to resolve some outstanding issues.
Mr. Amum said the goal of his government was that South Sudan and Sudan would be two viable states living in peace and for mutual security.
The chief negotiator made these statements in Juba yesterday upon his arrival from Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.
