One of the eldest religious brothers in the Archdiocese of Juba has died suddenly this morning after a short illness.
Br Augusto Lopeta died in the General House of the St Martin de Porres Brothers in Juba at 9:00 AM and was buried in the evening in Rajaf.Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro presided over the requiem mass at St Theresa’s Cathedral in Kator.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit was among the crowd that took part in Br. Augusto’s farewell mass.
Br Augusto was in his eighties.
He was a member of St Martin de Porres Brothers for over 56 years.
Br Augusto had kidney and blood pressure problems earlier in the week followed by an attack of malaria and typhus.
He hailed from the Toposa community.
Br Augusto is remembered as happy and welcoming.
He liked to dress the traditional Toposa crown of ostrich feathers during big occasions in church and play his small flute.
