The speaker of Central Equatoria State Legislative Assembly has accused tax collectors of misbehaving with businesspeople importing goods and services into the state.

Naptale Hassan Gale told the crowd this morning in Juba that businesspeople are complaining bitterly about the behaviour of tax collectors at all check points in the state.

He revealed that businesspeople lamented harsh treatment, over taxing, no receipts and illegal collection of taxes by collectors at checks points in Nesitu, Kaya and Kajo-Keji.

He advised tax collectors to show discipline and professionalism in their work in order to treat businesspeople with respect.

Mr Hassan revealed that that the state government depends heavily on the revenue collected for its operations.

He said he hoped that the setting up of a V-sat system of communications at all check points will reduce incidents with the revenue authorities.

Mr Hassan urged tax collectors not to use the V-Sat system to watch videos or surf in the internet.

He made these statements this morning during the official inauguration of the State Revenue Authority after undergoing rehabilitation.
