The speaker of Eastern Equatoria Legislative Assembly has warned state legislators over absenteeism without permission during seatings.

Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi issued the warning yesterday during the reopening of the Assembly after a three-month recess.

He said a number of MPs missed sessions without asking leave of absence from the speaker.

The speaker threatened that MPs with leaves without permission could lose their seats in the House.

Mr Ocholimoi emphasized that the Assembly will be stricter in its second session to make sure that the Constitution and Conduct of Business Regulation are respected: a MP loses his place at the House after missing 18 sittings.

The speaker also warned MPs against making empty promises to their respective constituencies.

Mr Ocholimoi said people complained that some MPs have not constructed promised roads, schools and dispensaries in their constituencies.

The speaker said the state constructed over 20 schools in a bid to fulfil the SPLM’s pledge to provide social services in the country.
