Youths in Maridi County of Western Equatoria are deeply divided over a call to replace the commissioner due to malpractices in administration.
Commissioner Setta Ogam had been under pressure from the youth leadership and Maridi elders to quit the job after he allowed foreigners to cut trees in the County without the knowledge of the community.Maridi youth leader Saki James Palaoko told Bakhita Radio over the phone that the youths are divided into two camps supporting and rejecting the call to replace the commissioner.
He urged the youth and the commissioner to calm down because divisions in the community are dangerous.
Mr Saki explained that the elders completely reject attempts by a section of the youth to allow the commissioner to stay on because Mr Ogam put their sons behind bars.
Maridi youth and community leaders last week wrote a letter demanding the commissioner’s removal.
Commissioner Ogam retaliated by ordering the arrest of 40 people including three youths.
The three arrested youths were released on Friday.
