Five members of a family died in a road accident at Loa trading centre along the Nimule-Juba road yesterday while one other survived with injuries.

Health coordinator for Catholic Diocese Torit, Emmanuel Oboja who helped some of the victims of the fateful incidence to the hospital, identified one of the dead as Silver Alau, a former staff of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.

Mr Alau was working as an accountant at Kerepi Teachers’ College.

Others deceased include his brother and three other members of the family, who were travelling to Mugali for the last funeral rites of their father who passed away last year.

Mr Oboja said the accident involved a tipper lorry that was talking the mourners to Mugali and a bus from Uganda with a Kenyan number plate.

He said added that the accident occurred after the bus rammed onto the side of the lorry parked at the side of the road, killing three people on the spot.

Mr Obuja said the cars of the Torit Diocese health team transported the wounded to Nimule Hospital.

One person died on the way and another upon arrival.

The driver abandoned the bus and escaped into the bush.

Another source said the passengers convinced the assistant driver to take the bus to the nearest police station to report the accident.

An angry mob stoned and stopped the bus and beat the assistant driver to death.

Some passengers were injured by the stoning.
