MPS RAISE CONCERNS OVER INSECURITY IN JUBA

Members of the National Legislative Assembly today raised concerned over the insecurity situation created by the killings in Komiru village, Juba, due to a land dispute.

Eight people, including a pregnant woman and two children, were killed and two people are missing after men in uniform went on a rampage between Saturday and Monday over demolition orders.

MP for Juba Paul Yoane Bonju said the incidents started on Saturday when the chairperson of Central Equatoria Demolition Committee announced that Komiru Village was to be knocked down.

He said some security elements on Saturday evening set up barricades to prevent men from entering Komiru village. At 10:00 PM they started shooting at random killing innocent residents and setting five houses on fire.

Mr. Yoane asked why the security forces should threaten innocent civilians.

He said eight people were killed in the clashes of Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The MP added that five people were taken at gun point but three were already released.

The legislators summoned the Governor of Central Equatoria, national interior minister, Juba County Commissioner and the state Minister of Physical infrastructure to appeared before the national legislative assembly next week and explain what went wrong in Komiru.
