The teachers at Rumbek National Secondary School have finally received their January salary.
Headmaster Abel Manyuon Jok told Good News Radio that the Ministry of Finance heeded to their plea and released the teachers’ pay last Friday at around 3.00 PM.He confirmed that the teachers were paid over the weekend and called off the strike they had planned for Monday.
Mr Manyuon revealed that the move for a strike was a sign to the Ministry of Education to avoid repeated delay of salaries.
He appealed to the Ministry of Education to urge officers in the department of Administration and Finance to deposit teachers’ salaries into the school accounts as soon as the dues are out.
CRN tried to learn the reasons for the late release of salaries at the National Ministry of General Education but the journalist was kept waiting for two afternoons to no avail.
