A test of old guns organized by the national army at Jur River in Wau without prior information scared residents this morning.
Wau Deputy Police Commissioner Albino Utho Mariano explained to Radio Voice of Hope that the SPLA Brigade 27 this morning cleaned and tested some guns and ammunitions that were in store for a long time at the river side.Mr Utho said the test was a normal military exercise and his office was aware of it.
He added that the army did not inform the public about the exercise and it was a mistake.
Mr Utho recognized the inconvenience caused by the unannounced gun test.
He told Wau residents not to worry.
The gun test was carried out near the town and some residents were scared by the shooting.
