The SPLM has postponed the Nation Liberation Council meeting for two weeks due to logistical problems.
The three-day meeting was scheduled to kick off today at Nyakuron Cultural Centre.SPLM’s Information Secretary Bol Makueng Yuol told journalists that the meeting was postponed for two weeks for all members to be able to attend the first Council after independence.
He said the huge cloud of dust hanging over South Sudan did not allow planes to bring delegates from Warrap, Bahr El Ghazal, Unity and Lakes states.
Answering to a CRN question about the Council’s agenda, Mr Makueng explained that assembly is going to deliberate on changes in the SPLM’s Constitution, Manifesto and name.
He added that the meeting will discuss policies that ensure water, education and security to implement the vision of taking the town to the villages.
The SPLM National Liberation Council, the party’s second highest organ after the National Convention, is the only body that can approve the ruling party’s transformation after the independence of South Sudan.
About 163 National Liberation Council members, together with observers and civil society members were expected to attend the meeting.
